The difference is not luck, and it is not a secret promo code from a coupon site. It is four things claimed in the right order.

The four layers of discount
Think of your basket as having four separate discounts, stacked on top of each other:
- The seller’s own discount. Already built into the price you see.
- A shop voucher. Issued by that one store
- Shopee’s own vouchers. Issued by Shopee itself. One free shipping voucher, plus one platform voucher (a discount, coins cashback, or a bank voucher).
- A payment method promo. Bank card, e-wallet or PayLater.
Layers two and three are where most people leave money behind.
The rule that catches everyone out
Shopee Malaysia limits how many vouchers you can use per checkout. Its current help centre allows up to three:
- One shop voucher,
- One free shipping voucher, and
- One platform voucher, and only one. This slot covers discount vouchers, coins cashback vouchers and bank vouchers claimed inside the Shopee app.
You cannot use two vouchers from the same group. The one that trips people up: an in-app bank voucher takes your platform voucher slot, so you cannot use it together with a platform discount voucher. This is why “why did my voucher disappear at checkout” is such a common complaint.
Check this at checkout. Shopee has changed these rules before, sometimes without telling anyone. Treat the rule above as the general shape of the system. The checkout screen is the final word.
What this means in practice
Free shipping has its own slot, so claim it every time. If you remember having to choose between free shipping and a discount, that was the rule from 2022. The real choice now is inside the platform slot: discount voucher, coins cashback, or bank voucher. Do the maths.
- Basket is RM300. Platform voucher is 8%, capped at RM25. In-app bank voucher is RM15 off. The 8% saves RM24, so take the platform voucher.
- Basket is RM150, same two vouchers. The 8% only saves RM12, so take the RM15 bank voucher.
Rough rule: compare the ringgit each voucher actually takes off, after the cap. The percentage alone can mislead you.
The split-order trick
Because the limits are per checkout, splitting a big basket into two checkouts can sometimes get you a second platform voucher. This only works if you have two platform vouchers you can claim and each checkout still meets its minimum spend.
The free shipping voucher is also one per checkout, so a second checkout can mean paying shipping again. Do the sums instead of assuming. Most of the time, one checkout is simpler and just as cheap.
The order to do it in
Step 1. Claim everything the night before.
Open the Vouchers page in the Shopee app on the evening of 9 October. Claim every platform voucher you qualify for, even the ones you do not think you will use. They are free and they run out.
Step 2. Visit each seller’s store page.
Shop vouchers are often only shown on the store page, not on the product listing. This is the discount people miss most often.
Step 3. Group your cart by seller.
Shipping is charged per seller. Three items from one store ships once. The same three items from three stores ships three times, and your free shipping voucher may not cover all of them in full.
Step 4. Check your coin balance.
Shopee Coins apply on top of everything else and are worth roughly 1 sen each. If you have a few thousand sitting there, that is real money.
Step 5. Choose your payment method last.
Bank and e-wallet promos during mega sales are often the single biggest discount available, usually a fixed ringgit amount above a minimum spend. Check your bank’s promo page before you pay, not after. One catch: if the bank promo is a voucher you claim inside the Shopee app, it uses your platform voucher slot. Promos the bank runs itself at payment sit outside that limit.

That is RM65 off the listed sale price, about 16%, with no coupon hunting.
Five things that waste your time
Third-party promo code sites. Most of the codes listed there are expired, for another country, or new customers only. Claim from inside the app instead.
Waiting for a better voucher. Vouchers during mega sales are limited by quantity. The good ones are gone within minutes of each wave.
Buying more to hit a minimum spend. Spending RM60 to unlock RM10 off is not saving RM10.
Ignoring the cap. “15% off” with a RM15 cap on a RM500 basket is a 3% discount. Read the cap.
Assuming free shipping means free. The subsidy has a limit. On a heavy item, free shipping can still leave you paying the difference.
